My XF Falcon was the first ‘nice’ car I owned. When I purchased it in 1989 it was only three and a half years old and in awesome condition. My day went guarantor on my loan of $12,000 that I paid for the car.

The car was a 1985 Ford Falcon GL Sedan 3.3-Litre automatic (XF) December build. It had no power steering, no air-conditioning, no power windows and definitely no power with it’s tiny 3.3 litre motor pushing 1,360kg.

The interior of my Falcon was a pretty basic affair. As it was the GL model (think Taxi-pack) there were cloth seats, manual windows, no power steering, no air-conditioning and no lidded centre console.

I fitted my Formuling steering wheel from the (previous) Datto but it made the steering soo heavy I ended up taking it off.

Other mods included:

  • Lowering (after I bought this car, my dad lowered it for me)
  • Headlight protectors
  • New stereo, amp and speakers
  • Rear window louvre

*The first two pictures are my car with heavy AI upscaling and restoring. The interior pic is not my image and was sourced off the internet. The interior configuration is exactly as it was in my car

Favourite Memories

Checking my top speed

Coming along the Bridport Highway while on a drive one day, I decided to test out the Falcon and see what she’d do. After winding her up for a few kilometres, I finally coaxed 160 kph out of her.

Not the fastest of the Falcons…

Random other memories (good and bad)

Having my back seat burnt

Driving around with a car full of people and the lit end of a ‘cigarette’ fell onto the seat (in the middle position) and burnt the buggery out of it. There was no hiding it and no covering it up without seat covers.

Busted by the cops playing cards

TD and I were playing cards in the car on Denison Road, just up from Duck Reach one night when the police turned up. We were both taken out of the car individually and questioned as to what we were doing. My car was searched and the only thing that was found was my (not illegal to have but illegal to use) radar detector. It was promptly confiscated and never returned.
