My new car

I bought my car sight unseen off the internet on 28 October 2015 after finding it on CarSales.

At the time, I wasn’t looking for the latest model, just an upgrade to a newer model. I’d wanted a ute forever and finally purchased a 2007 BF in 2010. It was the base model which I added wheels to plus some other interior mods (Bluetooth hands-free, decent speakers et al).

When I came across this FG X in my preferred colour I asked the dealer to send me pictures of any damage and also the odometer.

It’s an ex-demo November 2014, Ford Falcon Ute FG X XR6 EcoLpi in Lightning Strike with cloth Shadow trim.

It was delivered to me from Melbourne about a month later on the back of a truck. I checked the car over for damage, gave it the all clear and took delivery.

My next job was to get it registered.

As the car was from Melbourne, and needing Queensland registration, it was unregistered. I called into the nearby Transport Department and was told that it couldn’t be registered until it had a signed and certified gas compliance certificate – it was an lpg-only ute.

So, I was now off to get it certified and compliant so I could return to Transport and get it registered. A few hundred dollars later and I was good to go.

New Coilovers

By 2017, I’d saved enough money to buy some decent coilovers.

I went with Shockworks, who offered high quality 12-stage adjustable, mono-tube shock absorbers that had been especially tuned for the Ford Falcon during their work with Prodrive Racing Australia (now Tickford Racing).

The difference in ride quality was astounding and Shockworks dampers are a completely rebuildable/serviceable product where every part can be replaced.

They transformed my car – both in looks and handling!

New Tie Down Points

In 2019, I finally completed one of the jobs that had been on my ‘gonna get around to it one day’ list – tie down points at the front of my ute tray.

All sorted!

Rear Drawers

COVID-19 hit us in early-2020 and we were locked down a few times and not allowed to leave the house unnecessarily 🙄

So I got busy building a set of drawers for the rear of my ute.

Got my suspension lifted

After adding the drawers, the back end of my ute sagged a little due to the weight.

The drawers were made from construction ply with 4 x 20mm x 4mm steel tubing drawer rails on skateboard bearings as drawer slides. I’m guessing all up the total weight might be somewhere in the vicinity of 100kg.

I had the rear leaf springs reset and the coilovers in the front end adjusted to raise the ute by 20mm or so all round. It drives much better and should help with tyre wear as there is less negative camber on the front wheels now.

Odometer Milestones

I haven’t been lucky enough to catch all of them but here are a couple of my odometer milestones…

THE END

I sold my ute via CarSales on 10 June 2025 to a bloke in Victoria.

I was originally asking $22,000, which I thought was a good price. In the end, and after 6 weeks online, I sold for $18,000 as I was losing money the longer she sat. I knocked back two offers of $20,000 in the first weeks of her being advertised which I shouldn’t have done in hindsight.

But that’s what happens when you get emotionally attached to something that you think is worth more than it really is. It’s worth remembering that your pride and joy is NEVER worth as much to someone else as it is to you…

Anyways, old mate from Victoria is the same age as me so I’m confident she won’t be thrashed. We had a good chat on the phone and he had the exact same ute, same colour, everything and sold it 5 years ago. Said it was the worst decision he ever made.

So he was stoked with his new purchase.

My reason for selling was the unavailability of LPG  in Tasmania. I mean, you can get it, but it’s not plentiful and the town we are moving to only has one service station selling it.

When Launceston (the second biggest city in the state) has only two service stations selling LPG, the writing is on the wall.
EDIT: As of 31/07/2025, there is only one service station selling LPG in Launceston (the United near the airport)

My hand was forced… I’m gutted… and I shed a tear as she was towed away 🥹

The Ad as it appeared on CarSales

Regretfully selling due to moving interstate. Mature-aged owner.

Perfect low cost LPG transport. Has just had LPG gas system inspection completed, tank re-stamped and certificate issued.

Only traveled 90xxx km. I have owned this ute from brand new and can supply all books, service history etc. Has been well looked after all it’s life and had the oil changed every 7,500km in between the 15,000 service period.

Car has a set of Shockworks coil-overs in the front end and Shockworks struts and Kings leafs in the rear end. The struts have 12-stage manual dampening control and can be dialled softer to harder as needed.

I replaced the factory ICC Sync 2 system with Sync 3 which has added factory GPS, reverse camera and Apple carplay/Android Auto.

This ute has bedliner, soft tonneau cover and cargo tie down hooks/rings.

INCLUDED FEATURES:

  • Shockworks coilovers with shock absorber dampening adjustment
  • Sync 3 with Apple Carplay / Android Auto
  • Remote central locking
  • Power door mirrors
  • Climate control air conditioning
  • Limited slip diff (LSD)
  • Leather steering wheel
  • 18″ alloy wheels
