My new car isn't a Falcon

I bought my car (again) sight unseen off the internet on 10 June 2025 after finding it on CarSales.

At the time, I was looking for a well-priced second-hand wagon that someone else had paid all the depreciation on. I was initially looking for a Mazda 6 wagon but after finding out they weren’t bringing them into the country any more, decided against it. I mean, I just sold a car that wasn’t made any more – didn’t want another one. I found a low-kilometre 2023 Subaru WRX Wagon that looked good and was the right price, so I contacted the dealer.

After talking to a sales lady and getting some pics sent through, I made an offer about 10% less than they were asking. It was just before the end of the Financial Year so I knew they would be wanting to get the car off the lot. I was told that my offer was too low, so I said ok but was happy to pay a deposit right now if the offer was taken. Sales Lady told me she would talk to the Dealer Principle and get back to me. A couple of days passed and I thought I was out of luck. Turns out I wasn’t.

Sales Lady called back and told me the Dealer Principle had said to her,”it’s his lucky day” and they accepted my offer. I paid a $500 deposit and the deal was done.

I found out their location was Newcastle so I organised to get there so I could drive the car back. I initially was going to get the car transported to me but after finding out it was just over $1,000 I decided to fly down and drive back – what better way to get acquainted with my new car.

So for the first time since 1988, I wasn’t buying and owning a Ford Falcon.

It turns out the dealer was Kloster Ford in Newcastle so I flew down on Friday night for pickup early the next day.

My drive home

I welcomed the drive home and was excitedly looking forward to it. I hadn’t owned anything but a Falcon for 37 years and I was full of anticipation to drive a car other than a Falcon. It was actually good. Very. Good.

The technology in a 2023 Subaru is miles ahead of what was in my 2014 Falcon and I was also pleasantly surprised with the power of the Subaru as well. At 202kw it surpassed the 198kw that my ute had and being ≈200kg lighter had power to burn. I’m thinking it is going to be fun on Tasmanian roads having both power + AWD capability.

A couple of hours into my trip home, this happened. So, of course, I had to pullover to get the shot…

All the 2’s. Every. Damn. One. 💯

The drive was tiring but wonderful and I only encountered one Cop the whole way which Waze alerted me to before I saw him and his hand-held radar.

Add in two toilet breaks, one coffee stop at Coolongolook and one KFC break and the ≈700 km trip was over in no time.

A great day!

Finally gave my car a polish

I finally got the chance to give my car a much needed polish seven months after purchase.

I came across the perfect product called Griot’s Garage 3-in-1 Ceramic Wax which was very easy to apply – simply spray on, wipe on and wipe off.

Mr Miagi style.
