On the Road

Monday 8th September, 2025

We started our move to Tasmania at around 0600 on Monday morning 8 September 2025.

We were luck to be able to stay at our neighbour’s (Dick and Dolly) place meaning we said goodbye to an empty 7 Blamey Drive the night before.

Our destination was Goulburn, around 1,000 km away.

First stop on our journey was Coffs Harbour for coffee. We’d been on the road for around three hours at this stage and needed a caffeine fix.

We had a moment of panic as Keith had escaped his cat-carrier and was nowhere to be found. I was standing at the car door with it open but hadn’t seen him exit the vehicle. Luckily he was on the back parcel shelf…

Our second stop was Coolongolook for lunch and petrol at the BP roadhouse. With fuel tanks and bellies full, we hit the road bound for Goulburn.

We arrived at our destination late in the afternoo after traveling 1,000km.

Our new challenge was to smuggle Keithy into the hotel room without management noticing. We’d stayed in our booked room before and knew we would be able to get Keith in through the glass sliding balcony door. We had strategically parked right near our room so we only had to pass the cat-carrier over the balcony railing.

Mission accomplished!

Keithy had other ideas… and he just wouldn’t settle. After a couple of hours of trying to sleep and having Keith make a ruckus, we put him back in the car to sleep.

Tuesday 9th September, 2025

Another big day on the road today to back up yesterday’s mammoth effort. We hit the road early (again) and stopped a little while later for some fuel and coffee.

When I moved/drove to QLD in 1998, it blew my tiny mind that you could drive for 16 hours in a day and still not reach your destination.

On that particular trip I had only one cassette (yep, cassette) in the car, that wasn’t buried in all my stuff, so I listened to a double shot of my two favourite Chris Rea albums for two days solid.

So, with that in mind, but with my whole album collection on a usb stick in the car this time, I wallowed in some nostalgia and played those two albums through on my return journey to Tasmania. And, they’re still great!

My return journey back to Tassie is 14 days short of 27 years…. ❤️

Oh also, this very day 25 years ago, I gave up the ciggies 🚬

What. A. Day!

The next part of our journey was a fairly big haul from Yass to Geelong.

We arrived in Geelong and had another Truckstop meal… of sushi! Talk about taking our lives into our own hands.

Once lunch was done, we went Aldi shopping for chocolate biscuits, chocolate and chips.
